 ramblings and things

Three Score and Ten

A significant occasion,
My three score and ten
Don't suppose I'll celebrate
another seventy  years again
New friends, old friends
All mixing and mingling
Chatting and laughing
And slowly drinking
The call to the table
For serving of the meal
Nice set menu with
A general appeal
With appearance of the food
A sort of silence descends
Odd muted conversations
As each course ends.
Pudding and coffee
A slice of birthday cake
Succulently moist, the best
That our Joan could bake
Farewell speeches then
All off on our way
A perfect ending to
A perfect day
Never thought I'd make it
Never see it again
My significant occasion
My three score and ten.
