 'Inspiration In Thought'

'Ten'

Time has its own way of fleeting,
The speed is entirely its own,
It chooses no one in particular,
As through all eternity it roams.

Ten years make up one decade,
One tenth of a century in measure,
But it is totally up to each person,
If their time's spent in heartache, or pleasure.

You cared not for what you were leaving,
Or the price that you caused us to pay,
All you thought of was simply your feelings,
And your result at the end of the day.

The growth of one's grandchild does not stand still,
No more than one's child in life's game,
But you thought not of those you were leaving,
Or the road you were paving with pain.

A man with respect does not walk-out,
Or turn a blind eye to the problems,
Nor does he think of only his desires,
He stands tall, and does what's required.

I remember the day that you left us,
I can still see your face turn away,
I can still hear the door slam behind you,
I can still see your truck drive away.

It has taken us many a long night,
To come to terms with our feelings,
But we have finally discovered throughout it,
Our success is achieved in our healing.

Furthermore I now add with assurance,
As I embark on the path laid before me,
Each step that I'll take is with courage, and strength,
As life leads me where it's suppose to.

~ This has been a bittersweet poem for me to write,
as tomorrow, March 14th, marks ten complete years
since my husband and I separated. The decade has seen
many changes come about, some difficult to fathom,
others easier, but the main achievement that we have
managed is the fact my family and I have endured it
together, and for this we can celebrate. ~ R.B.
