Visions

The Humbleness of God

The Lord God
who made Heaven and Earth,
who is perfect in righteousness,
purity and sinlessness,
this awesome person,
humbled himself
to be born in a stable
among the stench of animals,
laid in a feeding trough,
born of a poor peasant woman,
raised in a carpenter's shop,
maligned and vilified
by self righteous and vicious enemies,
treated like a criminal,
crucified, dead and buried,
all to redeem and rescue
us miserable sinners
so unworthy of his redeeming love.
Yet He has risen from the dead,
the first fruits of them that slept,
the stone which the builders rejected
become the head of the corner!
Great is the Lord
and greatly to be praised
great is His Glory
and His wisdom infinite!
It is He who has called us
and not we ourselves
for He made us
for fellowship with Him
and our souls are restless
till they blessedly
rest in Him!

In the ancient world, the cornerstone was the most important stone in the building. It set the level, angle, and outer dimensions of the building. It had to be level and squared true (vertical) so that all the other stones could be set from it. If it were not level, then as the walls of the building were erected, they will lean and fall.

I think few people today understand this word this way.
