Visions

Unfulfilled Longing

Like a person lost in the desert,
crawling on hands and knees
toward a waterhole
which is only a mirage,
so we often look for
The lost lane end,
the happy turning,
the unfound door,
where the birds fly south,
all images used by poets
to reference the
unfulfilled longing
of the human heart,
the desire to return to that Eden
forfeited by Adam's Fall and
looking to the joys of Heaven
where sadness and sighing
shall flee away
and every tear
but those of joy!
