Our Day Will Come

Our Day Will Come                April 28, 2013

From the workhouse or the poor house to the dirty streets of town
From poverty to poverty, a great advance for sure, they'll never keep us down
On our little streets where working people meet and talk about today
Have you heard the news, that young guy died; they helped him on his way
Did you hear about the factory closing, no work, does anyone care
No money to visit other places, just walk the streets depressed
Pick groceries that are dated, my children must survive
The clothes we wear does anyone care as the pressure for Nike grows
I love my kids, we will survive, do you think the government knows
It's cold at night without a light as we lie together on the floor
The churches teach us what the big man said, I can't take anymore
Do our leaders care, do we exist? I love my life for sure
They say, “Our day will come” I ask the author when
I promised my children our day would come, please tell me when
From the workhouse or the poor house to the dirty streets of town
From poverty to poverty, a great advance for sure, they'll never keep us down
