A WALK DOWN MEMORY LANE

A WALK DOWN MEMORY LANE

Standing at the window the park is what I see
There are children playing as happily as can be,
Some are on the swings others on the slide
Some on the bike ramp their joy they cannot hide.

It makes me think back to when my kids were small
When their friends from around would come and call,
`Get your Bauer boots on we`ll have a skating match`
And so each other they would try to catch.

Off the ground tick was another favourite game
To void being caught they`d jump on the climbing frame,
They`d play these simple games for hours on end
Boys and girls together happy times they`d spend.

And when the winter came bringing the snow
On their sledges down the hill they would go,
They would steer clear of the climbing frames
For them it was a time full of fun and games.

For a time the park fell silent as the frames came down
The children watched in awe their faces wore a frown,
They were no longer safe is what the children heard
They all thought it was totally absurd.

But Health and Safety Rules must be obeyed
And so rubber mats in the park were laid,
A different park arose from what they knew
But as time would have it the park they outgrew.

Now they bring their children to play in the new park
On different adventures these off-springs will embark,
For things have changed and time has moved on
For these now adults their childhood has gone.
