Moons of Memory
Today out on the patio
I watched as raindrops hugged the ground.
Funny how your eyes react
To all that moisture coming down.
They, too, took on a summer shower
As mem-o-ries rained down my face.
Feelings fade in time they’ve told me
But I have never reached that place.
The wings of yesterday have folded
And time cannot pry them apart
But I do lift them to uncover
The clouds left cast upon my heart
Blossoms of our dreams are blowing
Straight up to those streets of gold
But the petals are still scattered
On the stairway of my soul.
Summer will slide into September
Then winter turns to spring once more.
One day just runs into another…
While mem-o-ries take an encore.
It’s still a long and lonely way
From May to desolate December.
June highlights such deep sorrow...
So heartbreaking to remember.
But seasons come and seasons go
The way God meant these things to be.
I'll always hug him to my heart
Beneath these moons of memory.
