 Carol's Journey

Mishap at Work

Thursday shift just ended that day
But I had a mishap along the way
Walking down the carpeted ramp
Suddenly tripped on the floor mat

I remember awful sense of falling
Apparently hit door bottom casing
Felt my neck pop and afraid to move
Then heard two gals from my dept too

They saw me face down on the floor
Blood was coming out from somewhere
Gash on my head needed quick attention
Help came with towels for compression

Slowly pushed myself up in sitting position
Night supervisor asked detailed information
Answered questions to the best of my ability
Injuries on jobsite have potential for liability

Everyone agreed I needed prompt medical care
Discussed facility options and how to get there
Hospital or urgent care in an ambulance or car
I said car and someone noted urgent care not far

Night supervisor and employee or temp went along
Grateful for their assistance the journey was not long
Checking in did they need my insurance information
No it would be filed under workman’s compensation

Earlier I tried to reach several people on my cell phone
Later realized entries never changed to area code zone
I knew one friend I recently called so number was right
Second time I got through thankful to God for His insight

Both she and her husband came after obtaining directions
Released after three staples, neck x-ray, and instructions
Told to call and make appt with Occupational Health Friday
If severe headache, dizzy, or vomiting, go to ER right away

Went to get my car at work which the husband then drove
He followed and I stayed with the lady directing the way
First to pharmacy for anti-infection gel and muscle relaxant
Then home after three long hours from time of my accident

Lady had brought me delicious supper in microwave containers
I enjoyed every bite, took meds, then off to bed slept 10 hours
This all happened Thursday night so stay tuned for more later
Results of appointment Friday and healing progress thereafter

NOTE:  Dated 7/25/13

Tuesday I got my staples out.  Then yesterday at work, I began experiencing
constant blurred vision and headaches, which had been intermittent before.
I went back to Occupational Health this morning, after getting my staples out
two days earlier at the same clinic.  It was my third visit there since my accident.
Upon the doctor's examination and approval from worker's compensation
insurance, they got me in for a CT-scan of my brain this afternoon.  He also
requested that I stay off work until after I see him on Monday morning at 8:00
when I will get the scan results.  Friday I am going to try to make an appointment
with my ENT for my sinuses, which are plugged up and could be partially connected
to my symptoms.  Thanks for all your prayers!
