Whispers of Hope

Like the still, small voice,
it is not in the wind,
not in the earthquake,
nor in the fire,
but in the still, small voice.
Chained to the tyranny of the urgent,
the immediate task to be done,
the crisis of today,
the endless noise,
it seems there is no time for God.
But we must make time
with a listening ear.
Jesus is not a harsh taskmaster
but a gentle shepherd
softly calling to his sheep
who know his voice
and who will follow.
Oh cease from being busy being busy.
Rest awhile along life's way,
to hear the still small voice
calling to you and to me
with words of sweetness and love,
with counsel and comfort.
Whispers of hope!
That still, small voice!

"And he said, (to Elijah) Go forth, and
stand upon the mount before the Lord .
And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a
great and strong wind rent the mountains,
and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord ;
but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the
wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the
earthquake:

12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord
was not in the fire: and after the fire a still
small voice." I Kings !9:11-12.
