one day I looked at myself
and realized I was gone..
the mirror had cracked..
behind that former sparkle..
behind those eyes so blue..
there lurked some monster
who wanted nothing more
than to rule the world..
Such as Alexander, or Caesar..
Napoleon or Hitler..
To proclaim to the masses,
"I am your God!"
With the power to take Life,
or give it..
if it pleases me to do so--
And then never to taste
the bitter sting of death..
To watch the birth of mankind..
to see the seasons change..
to share it's Life..it's rise to fame..
and ultimate demise..
and see it happen all over again..
Immortality has it's price..
Sure enough, like falling out of
the apple tree and landing in some
other reality..
and to know nothing can harm me..
I suppose the crux of this is the
loneliness and to be out of step with time..
Each passing remedy is like a face
in the crowd that looks back at me..
there and gone again, in the blink of an eye..
So turns the pages of times gentle ages..
and to realize such as I, the King of my kind,
alone..and never shall I die..
