Was she there when the shadows came?

I saw her face in the window

Saw her fade into the sunlight,

No smile remained, just a longing-

Down the road she walked alone,

White dress, long blonde hair ruffled

Breezes sweeping fields of rich green,

Golden air shimmering summer heat:

Country cottages and gardens of colour,

Faces looking out with dreams that may not last,

Time will claim the songs of the heart,

And leave spaces where once there was life;

But something remains forever I know-

Words cannot touch the eternal beauty-

But for a moment she was everything to me

As the skylark strove to reach heaven

And I realised true love is forever.
