My Little Secret (A Child's Poem)

I like to play on the playground
where the other children run.
I'm ready to be a big girl
and keep up with their fun.

There is much they don't know
when I'm left to play alone.
If I try to play with the bigger kids
then my secret might be known.

There are fairies in my backpack
with the doll I like to keep.
I will open my bag slowly
that I don't wake them from their sleep.

Nobody else can see my fairies
because they are hidden well.
They are tucked inside a pocket
and they told me not to tell.

The fairies are my secret friends
and we play among the flowers.
They flutter up into the trees
and float down on leaves for hours.

We also play hide and seek
and the smallest hides the best.
It's nice to be little for a while
but I will grow up like the rest.

I may be small to the other kids
at the park where I like to play.
But, my fairies are the smallest
and I'm growing taller every day.

School will be my next adventure
and the activities will be fun.
I can make new friends easily
and I won't be the smallest one.

There will be much to learn
of our world, the big and small.
There will even be games to play
like tag and throwing a ball.

Soon my fairies will have to go
back among the clouds on high.
Their world is at the rainbow's end
where magic dreams are a lullaby.
