Self Reliant Pioneer

Harnesses snapped, wheels creaked
as the wagons crossed the plains.
The pioneers pulled their handcarts
and were soaked by thunderous rains.

The trek of the mormon pioneers
and the sacrifices in the cold.
Accidents, illness and even death
are among stories from days of old.

They walked through wind and snow
and prayer helped them along.
The days seemed dark and dreary
but the journey made them strong.

With faith they endured a lot
and they sang their hymns of praise.
Over rough trails and wet rivers
they traveled for many days.

There were times of great joy
when happiness held back tears.
Overwhelmed with challenges
great courage calmed their fears.

These self-reliant pioneers
depended on each prayer.
They walked along with faithful hearts
and showed each other care.

The feelings felt were so divine,
they reached their promised land.
The guidance and love of the Lord
helped them with blessed hand.
