Near Sunrise In October
A hush is what
I see
and hear.
A breathless morning
ebbs and
flows.
Not even the West Wind
sighs nor stirs.
A pine needle
balancing
extends itself like a spindle
on a spider's web
pretending it can grow.
Crows chatter quietly
as if they were in
school.
The pallid sky stretches
indolently as no other human
form seems to stir
below.
The house windows are still
darkened while the town snores
fast asleep.
Am I awake or dreaming
the air is slightly charged
and electric,
its taste, still
mildly sweet.
It is
moments like these
that are transient
and with time
they vanish,
fleeting,
incomplete.

It was as if God generously gave me
a singular moment alone this morning.
