IT'S JUST A PITTANCE OF TIME!

We came as strangers from all over this great land
Enlisted to help fight off the communist aggressions
From so many different cities and towns and states

Like a rainbow we had many various colors of clothes
Some wore t-shirts & jeans some dress slacks & shirts
Some had long hippie like hair others had the crew cuts

Soon we were taken to get one of those GI bald buzz cuts
Then we were issued our new green military style clothes
Everyone was now looking like carbon copies of each other

Everyone had to look, act and sound the same from now on
We were now going to learn their way of doing everything
We were retrained to do everything the US Air Force way

Team work was our main course of study during training
It was drummed into us that we were all now brothers
Brothers in arms who would now take care of each other

When we were through with training we looked very sharp
Perfect copies of each other one for all & all for one
No longer were we kids in multi-colors we were warriors

We all went on to various advanced technical training
I took Heavy Duty Special Purpose Vehicles and Systems
My specialty was Crash-Fire & Crash-Rescue Vehicles

I was also trained on other Special Purpose Vehicles
After arriving in Vietnam I went to the Mekong Delta
To work on Air Force & Vietnamese crash-fire trucks

Just after I had reported in for my duty assignment
I was reassigned to the combat security police unit
Since "Tet of 69" was nearing they needed extra guards

I was assigned to defend this air base from attacks
We were paired up with regular combat security police
It was believed that the enemy would try to overrun us

Trained as a technician I was now a full time defender
Who would protect all the assets and personnel on base
And soon I quickly learned first hand of the dangers

The enemy forces would fire mortars and rockets at us
There were also various types of deadly creatures too
Those big black jungle rats and many venomous snakes

We had scorpions, huge millipedes and of course cobra's
Everywhere you stepped out there could be very dangerous
Worst was the hot shrapnel from mortars & rocket blasts

Even if the enemy didn't kill you the creatures could
We had made it through our tour for one simple reason
We were brothers in arms and we took care of each other

Please remember that over 58,000 of our brothers and
a few sisters gave the last full and highest measure
of love for their brother warriors over there and for
all those people who were just innocent victims of the
communist aggressors who had been trying to take over
control of their people and nation. Young kids here had
left their families and homes here in America to go and
fight to help defend the South Vietnamese people and to
keep all of them and their country a free nation. Please
take just a moment to remember them on Veterans Day and
on Memorial Day for all they gave to defend freedom for
all of us Americans and for other nations who wanted to
remain as free countries and free citizens of their own
countries as well. It's Just A Pittance Of Time!
