'' The Same Thing Could Happen To You ''
As Christmas approaches not all is joy,
Try sparing a thought for others,
For some this time can really destroy,
Lack of care and love is what smothers.
A marriage break down can rip you apart,
Bereavement leaves you feeling alone,
Not seeing your children can tear out your heart,
We all have a fear of the unknown.
You may have a problem with drink or drugs,
Your family and friends have disowned,
What you would give for just one of their hugs,
Instead of getting drunk or stoned.
In life not all is sweetness and light,
That requires our consideration,
For some there is no future in sight,
They've given up on that feeling of elation.
At some point we'll all have our ups and downs,
Think of those who can no longer cope,
While one smiles the other one frowns,
They then lose the true meaning of hope.
While you watch the world through rose tinted glasses,
Surrounded by family and friends,
Christmas shopping with the cities masses,
While their feeling of despair never ends.
I'm not advocating you abandon your day,
Just to give those less fortunate some thought,
A smile with kind words is not much to purvey,
That feeling of worth can't be bought.
It's remarkably easy to take the wrong road,
Don't judge or ever think you're all seeing,
Life's trials can and do make some people implode,
It doesn't make them a non human being.
Loneliness is cruel it can bring on a tear,
For their plight just try to take heed,
Some reassuring words can alleviate their fear,
A friend in need is a true friend indeed.
So before you sit down to your Christmas meal,
Look at life from their point of view,
If you're truly honest the truth will reveal,
