THE WORDS OF THE BIBLE
King James Version
THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO SAINT LUKE
Luke 2: 18 − 21
18. And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.
19. But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
20. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God
for all the things that they had heard and seen,
as it was told unto them.
21. And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child,
His name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel
before He was conceived in the womb.
My understanding of these Scriptures
V18. Then the shepherds left the stable where baby Jesus was.
Along the way they told everyone about the angels (from heaven)
singing and praising God, for God's Son was born.
Everyone who heard the glad tidings wondered whether to believe them or not.
Some believed but some did not. The same is true today.
When the glad tidings of Jesus is told
some will believe, some will not believe.
V19. But Mary kept (remembered) all these
things and pondered (in deep thought) them in her heart.
I am sure she and Joseph knew she had given birth to God's only Son.
She recalled all that had taken place.
She took out her memories daily and remembered each thing that had happened.
I am sure she wondered what would happen as He grew older.
She kept them stored (treasured) in her heart.
V20. The shepherds returned to the sheep's pasture.
Along the way they praised and glorified God for
allowing them to be the first to see Baby Jesus.
They praised God for all they had seen and heard.
They knew it was true, for the angels from heaven had told them so.
V21. Eight days later the Baby was circumcised. His name was called JESUS.
This name given by the angel before He was conceived in Mary's womb.
Eight days after a boy child was born he had to be circumcised.
God had commanded them to do this in the Old Testament.
At that time THE CHILD was given His name.
He was named Jesus (Jehoshua the name for the Jewish Messiah).
Tomorrow we all will be given a new clean slate, the new year 2012.
It is a new beginning for all of us.
What will our lives write on the clean slate we have been given?
What will we do with Jesus the Christ in 2012?
Will we set an example for the world to see
that something is different about those of us who go by the name of a "Christian"?
*Jesus is God's only begotten Son. John 3:16
*Jesus is the second person of the Holy Trinity:
God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit.
