Visions

Camelot

Camelot! Camelot!
Rising above the Vale of Avalon
where mighty Arthur,
King of Britain
ruled a turbulent realm
of noble Knights and gracious Ladies.
Drawing a sword from a stone
which none but he could do,
venturing forth boldly
on his high destiny.
He offered his sword
upon the High Altar
of St. Paul's Church
at the Feast of Pentecost.
Anon, he was knighted solemnly
and with great pomp and ceremony.
the golden, jewel encrusted crown
placed upon his noble head,
a lordly king indeed!
Dealing service high
to lords and commons,
the mystic sword Excalibur,
not sleeping in his hand,
but putting enemies to shame,
defending the weak and powerless;
striking out valiantly for
freedom, truth and justice.
Alas! like a bird flittering
into a great, warm hall
for but a brief while,
then out again into the cold,
his realm of peace and order
lasted for but a time.
Mystic Excalibur returned
to whence it came,
the once and future king departed,
the fellowship of table round dissolved
Arthur's funeral barge
gone into the sea.
Alas! Camelot!
