the cat speaks of himself

cat inside me
I prowl and purr and pounce about

slink and slumber in the shadows
nap in sleepy sunshine
stare unblinking with glowing eyes
ensnaring in my vision
all that skitters
scurries
flutters around

cat inside me
stretches elongating each-every inch
tip-toe rises stiff-legged shaking out the crimps
snagging carelessly threadbare chesterfields
tearing at the stringy sinews of chintz
hold me anyway

I'm your often baby
le petit prince

cat inside me
leaps tour jete at fuzz-bunnies
and floating dust motes
with high-kicking air-born
furry flinches.

cat inside me
nips tenderly at the mistress's toes
laps languidly at the master's nose
rests my weight equally between their breathing bodies
absorbing all of their nightly heat
in the morning
paws-pads their faces
time to persuade them to roust
out of bed greeting
morning's sweet
me

cat inside me
keeps me moving
lets me know I've more lives to live

cat inside me
ever watchful
purr-full joyful
teacher of the moments
sweet boy for hugging
and a doting dangling kiss

all are
glad he's found
(when he thought
 he once was lost...)
happy now in
his forever home

love
once given
renews
will forever
give
cat inside me
so contented
to live
