Here`s Tae Yeh Rabbie
To the Bard of Scotland on his Birthday 25/1/1759-21/7/1796 A man who used his pen like a sword or a kiss and ruled the world.
He saw, he heard, he felt, he wrote
With a talented compulsion
For mice and men and tiny beasts
He never showed revulsion
We know he liked the lassies weel
An` when he was passin` through
There`d be great excitement in the air
`Cause the lassies liked him too.
He did a lot wi` his short life
An` he wis fairt o` nane
He said it just the way it wis
An` knew whit he wis daen
So if he`s watchin` us the day
And I believe he wull
See us raise oor glass an` say
Yeh never made life dull
Rabbie lad such humble thanks
Comes fae us ane an` a`
Ye`re the best the very best
O` poets, oot them a`.
A` aroond the globe the nicht
A haggis in your name
Will be honored jist fer you
To bring ye back again.
Hope up there in Heaven
They`ll hae a drink or two
Tae celebrate alang we us
Fir you jist bein` you.
