Heavy Metal Poem

We’re sorry that we fitted you
with iron gloves and shoes,
with our own unique brand of nails:
We called them love.
If only we had known ….
You had such steely sadness
in your eyes and a look of death.
Should we still dare to dream
of a better day?
Maybe our eyes will adjust
to the dark:
Exactly this sky,
exactly this time.
Father, forgive.
