Visions

A Sense of Place

A sense of place
"To watch the sun
go down on Galway bay."
how one line evokes
an entire place
transporting me to another world.
To see The Leaning tower of Pisa
or La tour Eiffel on the Champ e Mars,
Milan, once capitol of the Roman Empire
where Bishop Ambrose
inspired St. Augustine
and made the emperor repent
of his harsh repression.
China's Great Wall
to keep the foreigners out
which this world traveler
dreamed of walking on.
Siam, Angkor Wat, The Taj Mahal
symbol of undying love,
the Ganges river,
the pyramids,
and the long sought
source of the Nile.
The stern, rockbound coast
where the Pilgrims alighted
from their Ship of Hope.
Boone county Indiana
Where Danial Boone once dwelt
till he could see the smoke
of his neighbor's chimney.
All these silent things
speak volumes to me
who longs to sail
beyond the sunset
to seek new worlds!
