A SHOT

That shot of tequila
Took the pain away
I had one shot
Then cleaned my yard today

After we discussed
Getting a divorce
I'm to blame but
It's both our faults of course

Mine because I couldn't be satisfied
Supporting a man for many years
His because of the lies
And all those many tears

I had to be the man
When I needed to be the woman
He wouldn't try to understand
So he gets what he has comin'

I had to be responsible
And pay all the bills
I had to go to work
Everyday even if I was plagued with ills

The housework was mine too
And taking care of the yard
That would be fine
If he didn't make it financially hard

He says I cannot live without a man
I'll have one in here within a week
And yes that may be so
Because that's why freedom is all seek

I'm getting use to sleeping alone
More blankets will keep me warm
At least I have a job and a home
Where I can escape the storm

I have a son and plants and cats
And a new car and a nice bike
I have my patients too
I have a friend I so like

Then there's the sun and moon and stars
And nature to make me feel good
I have learned to make myself happy
Just like I knew I could

He said I don't have to sleep with him
Or kiss him just say hi!
And I say I'll try to be a friend
Until we say goodbye

He knows it's been over for so long
And I have wanted him to leave
Now I am the one who's strong
And he's the one who has to grieve.
