Visions

The Beauty of Nature

Looking out over the landscape
I see a green meadow
with bright, lovely wildflowers
and a blue sky overhead
with fleecy white clouds,
birds soaring with wings
spread out to catch the updrafts,
the meandering river,
its green water, a reflection of the sky,
the Aspens rustling in a gentle breeze,
their leaves silver undersides flashing.
In the field a man drives two powerful mares,
the plow cleaves the rich, black earth
and the birds flutter about in the plowed ground
searching for food in the fresh, new furrows.
I think of our Creator God
who looked upon His New Creation
and pronounced it Good,
who created us in His own image
with a sense of right and wrong
and a sense of beauty.
How great a thing
is a sense of beauty,
The glory of the rift of dawn,
the reddening of the rose,
the great evocative connections
we find to love and loyalty,
the affectionate smile
of a loved one,
the touch of her hand,
the sound of her voice,
more lovely to us
than a beautiful flower!
Great is the Lord
and greatly to be praised!
