The Night

The stars light up the darkened sky,
The moon shown light upon this place.
The summer wind blew; only a mild warmth.
Grass reeds swayed together as if in a trance.
Trees branches reached out to touch one another,
As if they are asking each other for this dance.
The midnight birds they performed there newest score.
Orchestrating the music of the endless summer night.
The lakes water beating upon the rocks of the shore.
Evening crickets tune there instruments for play.
A few clouds appear dotting the diamond covered sky.
Lighting strikes in the distance a storm on its way.
Silence replaces the birds and insects charm,
As they take shelter fearing the up coming show.
Bolt of light flashes a great surge of power.
Thunderous crash echoes across the valley,
Shouting at those who missed the spectacle.
Rain drops hit the lakes surface, sending ripples around.
Sweet is the sound the drops make in a quiet night.
The storm passes leaving a clean smell; renewed.
Peace is restored as the morning sun breaks.
Leaving nothing but a memory of the night.
