Visions
To a Certain Lady
I look upon your face,
your hair, your cheekbones,
your smile
like dawn breaking,
I look into your eyes
and into the depths
of your soul,
a beauty inward
greater than outward,
like a lovely
crystalline structure
or a beautiful, shining light.
You are a good person,
like the Prayer of Socrates:
that the outward and the inward
might be at one!
Who can look upon you
and not see
the work of a master artist,
a great intelligent designer,
the Great Lord of Creation?
your hair, your cheekbones,
your smile
like dawn breaking,
I look into your eyes
and into the depths
of your soul,
a beauty inward
greater than outward,
like a lovely
crystalline structure
or a beautiful, shining light.
You are a good person,
like the Prayer of Socrates:
that the outward and the inward
might be at one!
Who can look upon you
and not see
the work of a master artist,
a great intelligent designer,
the Great Lord of Creation?
