He Was There 1978 (True Happening)I am here today, because He was there When I needed Him most, Jesus was there Vacation day had finally come and we loaded Our 77 Ford and headed to northern West Virginia As my husband, nine year old son and I Cruised along, excitement filled the air But hidden inside my heart was this Strange feeling I'd had for so many days Why did I wish we had made a will Why did I wait so long to call his sister Wish my minor ailment would keep me home Why did I put my blood type card full in view I really didn't know the answer, but I knew Jesus was there and would help me through With faith we were on our happy way Not knowing what lay ahead as we traveled on He was there when I felt the desperate need To fasten the never before used safety belt Also when I begged our son to move to The back and set in the seat All in the plan was the sudden overwhelming Love for my husband I felt The same love remained all through The terrible accident we were soon to meet We were thirty miles from home when We saw a car crossing in front to near too miss I knew then the reason for my dread as The noise of the crash filled the air I whispered Jesus help us and I hoped He was there with us in this When He kept me from passing out I had no doubt He was there Blood flowed freely from our son's head As my husband calmly rendered first aid Jesus was there during the long ambulance ride Giving our son courage beyond his age He was in the emergency room where Hours slowly passed while we quietly laid He was in the words pastor Kelly spoke With doctors and nurses through every stage Through the longest night of my life in my hospital room Where I repeated the 23rd psalm and prayed all night It doesn't matter that we've lost our nice car We're just thankful we're OK and there's no scars When my doubting husband agrees, He was there I thank Jesus and believe He's answering prayer Norma Duncan (c) 1978 2003/2004 Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem |
