Self Worth

Words roared forth
slammed her to the ground
again and again and again
‘til there was nothing left
but to lie in her own ashes
waiting for tears that could not fall

She prayed that this time
she would not get up

But as silence descended
as the sound of her heart
pounded cacophony in her ears
she stirred, crawled in the dust
creeping past everything she ever knew

She prayed that this time
she could escape

Tears would not fall
and she waited for hope
she waited for solace
she waited for the love
that had abandoned her

She prayed that this time
she would change

She pulled herself up
pushed open the door
and stood in the sunshine
vowing to shut down
the ugly voices in her head.

She prayed that this time
she would silence them forever.
