Visions

Old and Foolish

Old and foolish,
one day we fell in love.
Now we're so glad
we got what we were dreaming of!

Smiling in the sunshine,
laughing in the rain,
how good it is to be
old and foolish again!

My present wife and I both buried
our spouses, dead from cancer and
kidney failure, and longed for love
and companionship again.

This poem is a parody or a response to
the song "Young and Foolish" from the
musical "Plain and Fancy".

"We were foolish
One day we fell in love
Now we wonder
What were we dreaming of

Smiling in the sunlight
Laughing in the rain
I wish that we were
Young and foolish again"
