The Patched Flag

The torn flag of stars and strips colors match.
Being battle worn she gentle begins to patch.

So seasoned soldiers may once again carry.
In the mountains by the sea or on the prairie.

The beauty and elegance in the wind will wave.
Leading the charge of the soldiers fighting brave.

Freedom sought; to be released from a nation afar.
Giving it's shapes of red, white stripes brilliant stars.

In great haste she mends each rip to complete her task.
Knowing the importance of each of her little patch.

When finished she gives back a flag mended but used.
A flag proudly showing the battles lost and won; it's abused.

But she sees no better fabric the symbol remains unmatched
She watches it march off with her flag that she gently patched.
