Visions

Casey Jones

I guess a lot of people don't know
he really was a Christian,
faithful  to his wife.
He saved a lot of lives that day,
lives that would have been lost
if he'd have jumped when the fireman did.
You see, there was a passenger train
with at least three cars full of people
and his train hit a caboose
with a train crew in it.
When he swung around that curve
at seventy five miles an hour,
there was a freight train
just coming of the main line.
There should have been a warning flare
but there wasn't.
By the time the fireman jumped,
he'd braked and throttled to twenty five.
He could have jumped then,
nobody would have said anything.
But he stayed, nobody was killed
or seriously injured but hut him.
When they pulled his body
from the cab of that ten wheeler,
there was apiece of steel through his neck.
His hands were frozen to the controls,
still braking, still throttling down.
Yes sir! Casey Jones was a brave engineer
and a mighty fine Christian!
