 Emergence
This has been
a long time
coming…

Finally…
this has not
been a fast
process…

I ate for comfort
I drank poison because
it was my own little
indulgence
until one day
I found out
it was the thing
making me sick…
and I woke up…
like being in a fog
of lies and the sun
coming out
to burn it off
slowly
the world came into
focus.

I can't help you,
if you are asleep
and like the comfort
of the lies
you have blanketed
yourself in.

But if you see me
perhaps something
deep inside
will awaken
that more
is possible
for you too.

I know you have
been watching.
I know you have
seen me struggle
I know you are
wondering…
If I can do it
Can I do it too?

The answer is yes.

But you don't have to
do it
alone.

We can emerge from
the fog.
We can break free
from the chrysalis.
We can shed
the unwanted husk.
We can do
what others believe
we can't do.

All we have to to do
to emerge is stop
listening to the poison
stop drinking what
kills us,
leave the place
that no longer
serves us,
and take those
struggling steps
out into
the unfamiliar
for a life
not just that
we wanted,
but
that we deserve.
