The guardian of the hotel gate –
A sentinel not tired to wait –
Provider of all heat and light –
That comes alive in winter night;
Impressive stone – artistic flair –
This fireplace is beyond compare –
How oft the times when folk have met –
Before its hearth – it does forget –
But witness to a hundred trysts –
It tells no tales – respects – resists;
How many secrets does it know?
So many but it does not show –
The stonework strong – its lifeline spared –
Preserved by those who kept and cared;
It must be kept beyond decline –
Its lines and form just like a wine –
A timeless thing which graceful grows –
Mature – refined – still in the throws
Of puberty – well – for a while –
But always a la mode – in style;
A final glance – touch of the hand –
Goodbye old friend – maintain your stand.
