You can always make a fool of a clown

You can always make a fool of a clown,

You can always take a rise and put him down,

You can lift his spirits up and then dash 'em in the dust,

He won't know, he won't care, 'cause he's a clown.

You can always make a fool of a clown,

You can rub him in the mud and roll him round,

You can tell him all your tales and he'll clap and look amazed,

He won't know, he won't care, 'cause he's a clown.

You can always make a fool of a clown,

You can lead him by the nose he'll do you proud,

You can show him off to friends then go out with other men,

He won't know, he won't care, 'cause he's a clown.

You can always make a fool of a clown,

Break his heart, have a laugh, an' run around,

You can treat him mean and cruel or plain take him for a fool,

He won't know, he won't care, 'cause he's a clown.
