Mid October in the OBX By aldo kraas, www.PoetryPoem.com/poet11586 Unlock all Features - Upgrade to Poetry Prime
In mid October
the fisherman and surfers come
but it is unusually warm this year
and the competition from scores
of those simply seeking the pleasures
of a day at the beach
creates early arrivals for the best spots
but the OBX isvast and space is never a real issue
the veterans of fishing from the shore
have set up near the pier
and hoist their half dozen or so rods to begin the trolling
I rarely see a catch
but I sense the further attachment to the Sea
it brings to these salty, gentle souls
yesterday the wind was biting
but today it is perfectly mild
a dozen or so surfers line themselves in position,
awaiting a smooth, sizable wave to begin their artistic dance
side by side with the curl
some new at the game don't make it far
but the experienced ones make it seem effortless
as they glide as smoothly as the heron
who nip the edges as they pass by,
occasionally tucking their wings and falling into a nosedive
as they spot a meal near the surface
In mid October I have a few days to play
and this is where I choose to be
