Wash. Rinse. Repeat. (2015) By aldo kraas, www.PoetryPoem.com/poet11586 Unlock all Features - Upgrade to Poetry Prime
Today
Was the same as every other day
I woke
And regretted it,
I woke and wrapped my hands round my throat to see if I had the strength to silence the whistling in my lungs.
I didn't.
I regretted it.
I felt sorry for worrying you
Sorry for forgetting to remember you first and that you didn't remember me first either.
Halfway to sun down
I wrote a poem
About my meaningless existence,
But I didn't have the heart
To make it sound anything more than flimsy and pathetic
Pocket cries,
They went through the wash
And I never saw them again,
Those torn blurry words
That never made it past my throat.
Did you ever watch a flower wilt on your windowsill?
I spent my afternoon gazing.
Watch it turn brown and crumple into dust at a feeble touch?
You told yourself you'd water it,
But never did.
I watched it die
With envy.
