children of a different order By aldo kraas, www.PoetryPoem.com/poet11586 Unlock all Features - Upgrade to Poetry Prime
i could forget you,
no more than forget the sea,
or the slow rising crescent,
the moon of forgiveness.
forget the tender kiss of the shadows,
when the moments are returned to us,
so very full, an inheritance reclaimed.
or the day of your atonement,
when i searched for you on your knees,
enduring the sorrow of the earth,
the old gossip and decay,
turning your eyes to the holy north.
do you imagine yourself
dreaming, searching the horizon,
courting hours and summer storms,
distrusting sleep,
and do you imagine him,
waiting in the sacristy to your right,
for your fall and the sacrifice to follow.
you have made it easy for me to pray,
quietly and often,
a gift of mercy taught to me
by those who disturbed my sleep,
and i and the product of others
seeking a purer voice,
are no longer those children,
but children none the less,
of a different order.
