Thank you for your service
I remember Grandpa
He was not a Veteran as such
He built the ships to fight World War 2
He was proud the day I joined
I never saw him again
He died while I was in Korea
But I always knew he guided on my shoulder
I thank all the heroes loving this country
I served for love of country
For others not for me
That poor wife whose husband did not return
For that Mother looking in the coffin
The memories of a son in her mind does burn
As a medic that pilot who died
The sight in my mind forever burns
I was in high school when I joined
Mom as only son had to sign the papers
She the real heroine she needed me at home
But then it was the National Guard
Off we go into the wild blue yonder
A thousand miles from home in Korea
I know what so many young boys far from home feel
In my job I watched men die they are the heroes
Giving the ultimate sacrifice for their country
It was six years out of my life would I do it again
In a heartbeat
