Try A Little Kindness (The Plight of the Homeless)
We will all go through one battle or another...
A helping hand can help another through...
So let's all just try to be a little kinder
To that one that could have well been me or you.
Let's try working a lot less on criticizing
And a whole lot more on cheering someone on.
Let's not be stingy with our smiles or with our money
For no one should feel forsaken or alone.
We don't know how many mountains one's fell off of
Or how many raging rivers they have crossed...
We can't see the many laps around some struggle
Or the many hopes and dreams that may be lost.
It may only take a little understanding...
A sympathetic ear or just a little time...
We don't know how many days someone's not eaten...
And since when has homelessness become a crime?
Did not Jesus say the birds of air were nested?
And that even though the foxes all were holed.
That He, the Son of Man, was really homeless
As He brought His Father's message to the fold?
I believe a dime or dollar to a stranger
May be handed to an Angel unaware...
I believe that God may place them in our pathway
To see who really does or doesn't care.
Yes, it may be some poor drunk just needs a bottle...
But even he is in need of empathy.
For, again, I say without God's Grace and Mercy
That poor drunk could very well be you or me.
So as we're sitting down to our delicious dinners...
Or lying down in beds so snug and warm...
There's an ex GI out huddled on a park bench
A guy who once protected us from harm.
There's no guarantee he'll be alive by morning...
Yet some will sneer to see him sleeping there.
Oh, Jesus, it's my hope we're not all heartless...
That we try a little kindness is my prayer.
