Once high on the limb
Remember as children
Mom and Dad in my case Mom
the most important person in your world
Then you discovered Grandma and Grandpa
Only Grandpa died and then Grandma
In the heart a pain of losing
Grandpa there was no goodbye
You were away serving in the Air force
Grandma was alone and lonely
You saw her a few times only
You went away to college
In search of life's knowledge
Met the love of your life
Mom died quite young at 54
Now you were Dad and Mom
You were starting to feel the bruises
The sweetist of Apples lay on the ground
Disappearing from your world without a sound
Mom and Dad no longer around
One day you realized you were Grandpa
Life was watching the Grandchildren grow
Knowing soon they would have lives of their own
Illnesses and even more bruising
What this old man is learning the importance of family
Fruit is falling from the tree
Soon it well be me
Do not forget those older than you
Take Grandma or Grandpa to lunch once a week
Someday they well be you and tired and lonely
Where were you when I needed you?
For the times I was needed be there
What better way to show you care
Than to lessen the pain of bruising
The games the winning the losing
As you age happy for the choices you were chosing
