The Effort and Appreciation of Gardening
Poem 790 – Effort and Appreciation of Gardening –Written on 6-21-2016
The effort and appreciation of food in general like a salad never had been there for me until recently.
I would be thankful for the food I had but I never had a true appreciation until
I went back to the days of Adam and Eve when true farming came from tilling the ground by oneself
by utilizing a good old fashion garden hoe and working the ground myself.
When starting the garden, after tiling the ground I planted seeds indoors
waiting only a week or two to start seeing the little seedlings sprout up and start their growth.
After seeing the growth from little tomatoes and onions than I became starting other seedlings from all varieties.
After weeks of seeing seedlings sprouting, it was getting to the time to set up the
garden beds the way I wanted them in the Garden. Adding a fence for animals to stay out of the garden,
which didn't work the first time and I had to set up a different kind of fence because of not getting
a strong fence the first time… I truly did not realize the effort put into the growth of food
by hand from the soil, to watering, to hardening to transplanting to watering them daily
in needed weather of course. From seeing the growth of the plants to even seeing the
first fruits of my vegetation on Father's Day of 2016, to experiencing the first
salad from my garden from lettuce, spinach and onions the appreciation of
fresh vegetation of any kind. The appreciation of effort put into making the delicious grown vegetation.
