Comes a time in the life of good old boys
To obtain a quantity of Jack tobacco too..
And sit nights out upon the porch thinking
About the things one used to back then do..
So many today going through the motions
But they sadly will never know so much of when..
There was always some place that was unridden
Many old friends back we knew away back then..
Oldest saddles old hats old boot even old horses
Old rifles old belts worn jeans too often as well..
One only got dressed up some going into town
On some special occasion if at all rings a bell..
Good clothes hung as almost strangers on a wrack
As suprized to see you as you were them at times..
That pair of boots you bought ages ago never worn
And an old book to explain some things in ryhmes..
An old faithful bed roll that was taken care of ever so
As that is where out in country air you watched stars
Twinkling you fall asleep just watch'en their glow..
Eventually going off some where's else for another
A million memories some good some bad of long ago..
So many you knew now up upon boot hill miles away
Many of them no more criminals than preachers be..
Your old dog beside of you every single night and day
Camped on a hill nights under a big old tree like me..
A camp fire was a real friend as flames they danced
Sunset yes and they were always different every one..
One can hear the sound of pure silence softly singing
One can sleep out there until tomorrows morning sun..
Gett'en old feels comfortable now as time it slips by
Not caring what the girls are wearing come what may..
Too bloody old to break anything in anymore at all
Just appreciating the same old same old one more day..
