The Cost (Thatcher Poem 4)
The Cost by Richard Harries (Thatcher Poem 4)
She looked immaculate
With the blue designer clothes
Hair swept up and coiffured
Everything in place
The voice modulated and coached
As she spoke SO deliberately
More spent on her hair
Than most folk do on food
When she died in her suite at the Ritz
With her private nursing staff
Surrounding her
It was in contrast to our grand parents
Who die in cash strapped
Cut back wards
In a failing NHS
Waiting for their piss soaked sheets
To be changed
She looked immaculate
With the blue designer clothes
Hair swept up and coiffured
Everything in place
The voice modulated and coached
As she spoke SO deliberately
More spent on her hair
Than most folk do on food
When she died in her suite at the Ritz
With her private nursing staff
Surrounding her
It was in contrast to our grand parents
Who die in cash strapped
Cut back wards
In a failing NHS
Waiting for their piss soaked sheets
To be changed
