King of Venice
Tonight, a T-shirt skyline
And surf-shop muse
Barefoot Baby and smoke-shop blues
Tattoo parlor, to peep the news
Rollerskate-bass, and protein shakes
I am Venice for the views.
June, gloom me a July
Crown-heavy, with a salt-wind kind
How it smells, a palmy day
And I met her
The duchess of Dogtown
October eyes, placated crown,
Echo Park lies and "Caress Me Down"
"And we rule the spirit
Of sandy souls,
Like bicyclists pedaling on mind-control
Freak-show fawning, surfboard wax
Vagrants again, sales-tax facts"
And my queen sings my crown,
Delicately, out of town,
Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica bound
"Longboard love, wet-suit seal
Marly fan, and Malibu eel,
Call me when the breakers reach the tops of the dock
And swim along the Topanga rocks"
