“The Pitch”

It wasn’t how
he pictured it
the reaction he got
can best be
described as
slight,
he hadn’t ever
faced up to
anything as
foreboding
and as intimidating
in his life
as this,
he saw it going
in multiply directions
some very good
ones
a few really bad,
but each
and every one
initiated
a strong response
of some sort,
he tried to
prepare himself
for each possible
scenario
but not a single
one
offered him
a chance for
a rebuttal,
so
he framed
and polished
his presentation
changing a word
adding a pause
making sure
he can project
his point
in a strong
yet unrehearsed
manner
as far as he
was concerned
this pitch
could change his
life
forever,
he had planned
this meeting
for the last hour
of the work day
but as he
was heading for
his office
with two coffees
in his hands
she came around
the corner
and for some
unknown reason
he deviated
from his plan
and blurted out
“I Love You”
and as time
stood still
for him,
he noticed the clock
behind her
was 9-minutes slow,
one of the
just poured coffees
was an inch
fuller
than the other
one
and her face
didn’t have
a look of
excitement,
surprise,
or even
confusion,
it actually
didn’t change
at all
“That’s sweet”
“Is one of those?”
“Coffees for me?”
she said
reaching out
to grab the one
that was an inch
fuller
than the other,
he just stared out
blankly
and nodded
“Yes”
as she
grabbed the coffee
and left…
