My Mom Lament

This is my mom lament
Every day I am spent
I work at my job
Then come home to sob
At requests that make me vent

My children are all grown
I thought I'd be alone
Til phone or bell rings
They're  asking for things
Like favors or things I own

"Mom, is the washer free"
Baskets of laundry I see
One comes in the door
Asking for more
"Do you have any food for me"

My calendar is starting to fill
I have no spare time to kill
Then at the door
babies galore
"Could you watch them, I know you will"

Im at work but one calls in despair
The car is broken, can I come there
I rush them to fetch
But here's the catch
I have to pay the repair

The telephone rings again
I reach for my pen
"Can you be a dear
And drive the kids here"
All I can say is, "when"

At home someone taps at the door
The other needs me some more
"Could you spot me a twenty
I ran out of money
And need to run to the store"

As that car pulls out of the drive
Another pulls in to arrive
"Your vacuum can I borrow?
I'll bring back tomorrow
If you're home by five"

I thought a sign I should make
Just for sanity's sake
Lullabies, livery, laundry and lending
At moms for free with no spending
Is closed for a break
