Selected Poems
Give me a name
Give me a name, worn, on the sleeve, next to the heart.
to carry away from strangers in the street
to call into the crowd when dreaming in making sense.
A name better than Eve had anointed
one chosen by deed or by whim with excitement
having first met, with a music only a name can make.
A name to satisfy, sharpen claws and stretch
knowing to be known. A joy of arriving
and being announced as important.
A name spoken softly with sighs
which turns heads around, anticipating the change
that comes with that promise and new name.
