     “Wanting Just to Talk”

I couldn’t understand
how anyone
could ignore
her
presents
when ever she
comes near me
my whole world
brightens up
and with just
a smile
she turns its
everyday colors
into vivid neon
lights
but right now
she sits
across the room
three feet away
from her boyfriend
a guy that
doesn’t care to
know
just what he
has
sitting
before him,
I watch her
ask him a
question
waiting patiently
for his reply
with wide open
eyes
and a smile
of anticipation
her boyfriend
not even looking
up
from his phone
as he hands
her
a “maybe”
her eyes
drop
to the table
knowing a maybe
is just a “no”
in disguise,
she fidgets
in her seat
a little
as she looks
around the room
trying to
come up with
the right type
of thought
that will get
him
to look back
her way,
I can see
her back
start to
straighten up
as she sits
in her chair
the beginnings
of a smile
on her face
as a wave of
confidence
washes over her
she thinks she
has found
the right words
for her to
wrestle back
his attention
from his phone,
but he only
shrugs his shoulders
giving her smile
no support
as it collapses
across her face
she keeps looking
at his eyes
hoping to get
at least a
glance
from him
giving her
something small
to build on
but not even
a nod
is forth coming
to her rescue,
this woman
whose looks are
built on natural
beauty
carrying such a
raw
unforced charisma
I’d give away
my whole world
just to have
a small part
in hers,
she puts together
one more effort
trying to steal
back
some of his
time
she rolls out
her words
to him
with a spike
at the end
of her sentence
hooking him for
a moment
he raises his
eyes up
to hers
causing her face
to overflow
with excitement
spilling out
in smiles
and joy
but he takes
no notice
of these gifts
she lays out
before him
his eyes
going back to
his 5.5 inch
dimeter screen,
I look back
at the two
of them
one swimming
alone
in a liquid
crystal pool
the other one
drowning in
four cubic feet
of empty
rejection,
I don’t know
how any man
could turn away
from her eyes
when given the
chance
to look deeply
in to them,
her eyes now
with no where
else to go
glance in my
direction
she gives me
a weak smile
as my eyes
try and comfort
her
from across the
room
she takes in my
sympathy
before looking
back
at her boyfriend
settling into her
chair
for a silent
wait
trying to mask
all her pain
from the man
she loves
sitting
three feet
away
from her
as I watch
her
from across
the room
wishing that
man
was me…
