Now Is My Season

once I turned my back on you
wouldn't take a look at you
especially not in the mirror
how I
denied my hurt
buried my pain
accepted unacceptable words
that others would spray

I've wanted to let you know
I've turned around now
I see your reflection

I'm making different choices
I've forgiven myself
for all my self-neglect
you're going to start living
in a very different way

how soothing it is to sit quietly
not even to speak
listen to the wind and rain
breathe in the silence
knowing I'm still here

healing might have been mine
all of this time
but now I'll claim it

see me
and how I'm a purple crocus
rising from the warming earth
now
is my season.
