Summer of Our Youth

In the backyard of my heart the
tree still stands where my twin
brother and I use to climb.

Beautiful as ever, just grown taller
branching out with welcoming arms
who care to climb and make a lasting
wish, before climbing down to start
living their dreams.

That warm humid summer day my
brother and I climbed this tall pine
tree that had a tire swing swaying
in the wind.

Those were the days we played
without a worry in the world, all
the kids in the neighborhood would
climb the tree of “wonder dreams”
we called it.

We would climb it in the warmth of
the evening, watching fireflies fly
high without electricity hook-up.. We
never asked why they had lights in
them, we would just put our arms in the air
playing spooks in the tree, scaring each
other.

Has we grew up and went on our way
my brother would write me, telling me
that many wishes he made in that tree
we use to love came true..

I believe most of our dreams are not only
dreams, but our true destiny that is
meant to become reality.

It has been years, I've seen that tree of
wonderment, which I call it now, and love having
my memories of youth every
once in awhile. It keeps the
soul of family alive.
